First post of the year and it’s June already. Amongst other things, Covid and lock downs have been quite the motivation killer but having to take a week’s leave or loose it before the end of June had me determined to go out somewhere decent with my camera.

I have a friend who lives near Bournemouth which is a hop skip and a jump to Dorset’s Jurassic Coast, so I chose to go to Kimmeridge Bay at silly o’clock to spend the morning and then on to visit my friend.

I went to bed at 4 pm and set the alarm to midnight. I was on my way at 1 am and arrived at Kimmeridge Bay around 3.45 am. First light was at 4.10 am and sunrise 4.55 am, so I had blue hour and sunrise to shoot in.

I had the place all to myself and could hear nothing but the sound of very gentle waves and the dawn chorus of the local birdlife. I left about 6.45 am shortly after golden hour stopped giving colour to the sky and did not see another soul for the time I was there.

It felt good to be there and I titled my favourite of the day, “Serenity” to reflect the mood of my surroundings.
